Advanced Electrolysis (electro-cauterisation)
Advanced electrolysis is a safe and effective form of skin blemish reduction using electrolysis and is non-surgical and non-invasive. Electrolysis is best known as a permanent hair removal method which works by passing an electrical current into the root of the hair follicle and destroying it. However, electrical current can also be used to remove skin blemishes such as skin tags, milia and some types of warts. The electrical current passes down a probe and into the skin where it effectively cauterises the blemish enabling it to be removed without surgery and with minimal discomfort. In most cases, only a few treatments may be needed to achieve results, but results do vary and are individual.
This treatment has been successfully used for many decades having started in the early 1900’s where electrolysis was often used to treat broken capillaries, warts, and spider naevi. Since then the technologies and techniques have continually progressed, and we use the most up to date Apilus and Sterex equipment and update our training regularly.
Monica is an experienced electrologist and is a registered BIAE member, and is qualified to Level 4 Advanced Electrolysis and Level 5 Advanced Blemish Removal. Monica has been accredited with MASCED UK for the early detection and prevention of skin cancer and melanoma since 2018 and has also undertaken dermoscopy training in 2019. We do not treat any new or growing skin lesion of any type and advise our clients to monitor any change in skin blemish or mole and seek medical advice quickly if there is any change for example in colour, shape or growth. Prior to treatment with electrolysis we normally advise clients to have their blemish checked by a GP/Doctor.

Below is a list of the skin imperfections that may be treated, but please note that not all conditions listed may be treated safely and effectively in all persons. A consultation and patch test is needed to assess suitability prior to any treatment of any blemish, and the treatment and aftercare will be fully explained to you.
Blood Spots (Campbell de Morgans)
These are bright red vascular blemishes which lie just under the surface of the skin, also known as ‘cherry angiomas’. They are dome shaped or slightly raised. They’re commonly found on the chest and abdomen but can appear anywhere. Most people over the age of 30 have at least one, and they are more common in men. We cannot treat all types of blood spots.
Milia
These are tiny hard white lumps containing keratin which lie just under the surface of the skin. They are easily treated with advanced electrolysis. Their actual cause is unknown, but they’re often found on people with dry or acidic skin and are common are the eye area.
Skin Tags (Verruca Filiforms, Fibroepithelial Polyp/Papilloma or Filiform Warts)
Skin tags are very common and are mainly found on the neck, under the arms and in women they are common under the breasts and the bikini line. They often appear with a neck somewhat like a mushroom and vary in size. They can be smaller than a grain of uncooked rice or larger than a broad bean. They are mainly caused by friction, for example around the neck where necklaces and collars rub the skin.
Cosmetic Blemish Reduction
Some types of facial blemishes such as tiny sebaceous hyperplasia and non pigmented blemishes such as plane warts can respond very well to electrolysis treatment and can reduce in size and overall appearance. We only treat the upper skin layers by heat dessication and we do not treat or remove the underlying skin tissues.
We can also treat small warts on the fingers or hands with advanced electrolysis, however we normally do recommend that in the first instance you visit your GP for treatment and possible referral. We do not treat children with advanced electrolysis.
Skin blemishes may change in size or appearance, and we advise checking your moles regularly and seeing your doctor immediately if you are concerned or if you notice any changes (e.g. change in colour, shape or size, any discharge or irritation). For certain blemishes we will require written GP consent. We will refuse treatment and recommend referral if we are at all in doubt as your safety is our out most priority.
